Why not start your day in the unique atmosphere of a temple in a historic town that is not open to the public? ～History of Jokyoji Temple～ Jokyoji is a Jodo sect temple whose main temple is Chion-in, which is famous for its National Treasure Sanmon. It was founded by Taira no Kiyomori's eldest son, Taira Shigemori, in the Jo'an period (around 1171-1175), and at the time it was called ``Higashiyama Aburago-do.'' In 1449, Emperor Gohanazono granted the temple the name ``Jokyoji''. After moving to Gojo Higashinotoin, it was moved to its current location in 1591 due to Toyotomi Hideyoshi's arrangement of Rakuchuji and shrines.
